Every year, it seems that we rush quicker and quicker into Christmas...it now seems that trees go up even before the Halloween costumes come off, nevermind Thanksgiving.
And as quickly as we rush into Christmas, we end our celebrations of Christmas as soon as the presents are unwrapped and the meal is eaten.
And yet, in the Christian Tradition, Christmas only begins on Christmas morning (those four weeks before are the Advent season, or the season of waiting), and doesn't end until Epiphany (the day that we celebrate the arrival of the three kings to the manger).
You know that old Christmas song, the twelve days of Christmas? Yeah, that's December 25th -January 5th.
I've been looking for a way to celebrate not only the season of Advent, with all the waiting and the preparation for Christmas, but also the whole of the season of Christmas in a way that was meaningful and practical for me and my family.
Looking, too, for concrete ways to create a culture and attitude of love in my own life (and not get so caught up in the ugliness that is around us), so that I can seek to follow the way of love that Christ calls me to in this world, I developed this simply Advent and Christmas season calendar.
Modeled after a classic Advent calendar, with daily reflections, prayers, actions or activities, this calendar is sure to give you handholds into celebrating Advent and Christmas as a Season of Love in your own home.
